Internet not working on network

I am trying to setup a UTM with a home license, I have everything set up and looking good, all interfaces show up. I am able to ping websites from the UTM web interface, but I am not able to browse the web from any devices.

What do I need to do to fix this?

  • First thing to check then:

    On left hand menu:

    Support > Tools > DNS Lookup > enter google.com and press enter. You should see a reply which shows that the UTM is resolving names to IP's (ie DNS is functioning)

    If the above is ok, the next step is to look at your clients. Assuming you are using windows, do an ipconfig /all to see what ip address/subnet gateway and dns servers your are getting.

    Post the results back here.....

  • I actually got it to work by disabling DHCP on my router, and enabling it on the UTM, basically rendering the router to a WAP....but from what I understand this shouldn't be necessary, but it works all the same so I am happy.

    Thanks for the suggestion though.

  • probably your router's DHCP configures itself to be the default gateway and not the Sophos UTM....
