Outbound FTP not working in passive mode

Hi Guys,

I need some advice on the outbound FTP for Sophos UTM 9.

Apparently its not working as per what I had expected.

I'm using the StorageCraft Image Manager Intelligent FTP to upload its backup images up to an external FTP site.

I can get connected but the upload will stuck and will not move!

If i connect to the external server via FileZilla or explorer, i can get connected with no issues. this includes moving around the folders and uploading or downloading files.

I tried using the same without the Sophos UTM 9 (means i use another router), the uploads goes smoothly ...

I had checked all the Firewall Logs and other logs but i could not find any traces where it is being blocked!

I even tried changing the ports for the FTP control port and the passive mode ports but the problem persisted.

please help!

Thanks

Alex Ang

  • Since you are sending backup images, you must be logging into the remote server.   Since ftp is unecrypted, ftp logins are high risk.  If you are using sftp or scp, as would be wise, the UTM issues will be different than if using ftp.

My guess is that this utility is using an additional port, and the alternate port is blocked by firewall rules.   You need to ask the vendor what is different from how Filezilla works
