UTM and YouTube Restrictions

Hello

I am trying to setup Google restrictions on our network to restrict access to YouTube as per this article. We need to make CName records but I can't for the life of me get it to work. I have tried setting it on the internal DNS and on the UTM itself using DNS groups and DNS names, but with no luck.

Can anyone shed any light on this - how do I put a CName record on the UTM so it won't forward it?

Thanks

Joel

  • Hi, Joel, and welcome to the UTM Community!

You can't do a CNAME in the UTM.  Do you have an internal DNS server?  Is Web Filtering in Transparent mode?

  • Hi Bob

Thanks for your reply. Yes we have an internal DNS server. Our config is below - not sure if this is correct or best practice?

Client machine - DNS set to internal DNS server

Internal DNS server - forward request to UTM IP

UTM - Route our to internet

  • That looks good (see DNS best practice).  You can put the CNAME entries in your internal DNS.  If Web Filtering is in Transparent mode, that's all that's needed.  If the Proxy is in Standard mode, you will need to make some Request Routes to have the UTM get the CNAMEs from your server.

    Cheers - Bob
