Dual WAN causes switch loop/broadcast storm

Hello,

I work for an ISP.  We have a customer that is trying to use the Sophos UTM9 SG105 on our Network.  They want to set this up between their current cable connection and the fiber connection from us.  They uplink to us via a Mikrotik CloudSwitch running RouterOS as a media converter as well as our fiber aggregation node.  They uplink to the other provider via a cable modem.  The other provider appears to be the primary link in UpLink Balancing.

When I add their port to the switch group on my end, I get either a switch loop or a broadcast storm - a problem very akin to this post:  https://community.sophos.com/products/unified-threat-management/f/hardware-installation-up2date-licensing/79687/sophos-bridged-interface-spanning-tree-protocol/308703?pi2132219849=6

They have given me access to the device via the other provider's ISP so I could help troubleshoot, but on a glance through the settings and your documentation it would appear that everything is set up correctly.  However, there doesn't seem to be a text configuration file one can download and review without having to click around through multiple screens in this web UI, so its a little hard to tell where there could be an issue.

I am wondering if anyone has run into a similar problem and what may have been done to fix it.

Thanks!

  • Sam, in your position, I would ask your customer to have their reseller get Sophos Support involved.  With luck, they won't suggest that engaging a consultant would be required.  Personally, I don't see why you would have any issues unless there's a wiring problem.  I think the thread you linked to is a different issue because of the bridge.

    Cheers - Bob
