more streaming questions

I have a utm home edition running 9.4 and am having issues with several types of streaming connections. I am able to stream netflix, and cbs.com just fine but multiple other websites do not work fox sports, any of the vodlocker,putlocker type sites also if I try to run internet speed tests the results always show much lower speed than i have. This did not start occurring until about 2 months ago, I didn't realize what was happening when it first started, so I am not sure which update made this happen, these sites used to work ok. I have tried most of the suggestions listed in these threads: https://community.sophos.com/kb/en-us/119464, https://community.sophos.com/products/unified-threat-management/f/general-discussion/22065/rulz

nothing seems to fix it, so I am at my wits end ,looking for help, thanks

Check #1 in the Rulz by Bob here. Any catch? If anything gets block via UTM check the filters and allow it.

I have had a check of those logs and nothing shows up, I believe the reason is, it's not actually blocking. I can get a video or other stream started but it buffers badly, so it's more of a poor performance type issue rather than a blocking issue

Is it only certian sites?

What DNS servers are you using? Can you try your ISP's and see if that improves performance?

yes certain sites but not just certain files types, I 've found that file downloads behave the same as some of the video streams,i.e slowly I have tried my isps' dns and also google dns, no change

Can you bypass the UTM (i.e. plug Laptop directly into Router/Modem) and make sure the speed issue is UTM related?

What happens to the speed of those streams if you disable Intrusion Prevention? If you Disable Web Filtering & AppCtrl. If you disable all of those?

I was sure I had disabled just about everything trying to figure this out, but I ran it with those things disabled like you mentioned to doublecheck and the result is the same ,makes no difference, I can still only pull a file download at about .6 mbps

Hi AF,

Try a different browser, what happens? Check if QoS is configured on the interface or source. Do you receive proper throughput on UTM? Check that via the "wget" command in shell.

I tried 3 browsers IE, Chrome and Firefox, they all act the same. I do not have any QOS configured. Can you point me to a link for instruction on using the wget command? I am not proficient in using the shell
