Where is UTM V10 beta?

Yes, I know it is Christmas and a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year to all. I was expecting to see v10 released into beta before Christmas?

So, anyone have an idea about anticipated release date of the beta?

  • Ian, have you seen anything beyond a commitment to 9.5?

    Cheers - Bob

  • No, I haven't Bob, I was poking in the hope of someone in the know might say something. At this stage I feel Sophos are way behind on the next Beta for UTM?

  • Are Sophos planning on replacing the UTM product with the new XG?

Seems silly to keep to competing products?

  • Actually, the XG has a loooong way to go before it competes with the UTM.  Even then, it's been over 15 years since Compaq was merged into Hewlett-Packard and although many weaker performers have indeed disappeared, HP still produces some products that compete with each other.

I still don't see anything that will tempt most existing UTM customers before 2018, so Sophos does need to get busy with 9.5 or risk losing existing clients fearful of having to take a leap backwards in capability.

    Cheers - Bob

  • Hi Bob,

there are people already migrating from UTM to XG in the XG forums.

To bring the XG upto the same standard as the UTM I think will require a philosophical change in Sophos' aims for the XG. They are looking to make the XG a faster lighter protection system than the UTM, they consider the UTM has become to bloated.

My 10c worth ont he future of the XG platform.

  • The last partner event that was hosted local to me I talked with several folks and SG is eventually going to go away.  The future is the XG series.  UTM is staying for a few years though..i am sure while they figure out how to make their cyberoam acquisition attractive to the SG crowd.  SG is very bloated..and has severe code quality issues..especially with the http proxy.  Every since they took it proprietary it's been a piece of junk...Part of the issue is that cyberoam still uses some components common to both platforms..like snort.  I have not used XG very much...I will explore it more with the recent release of the newest major version.

  • Hi William, thank you for the update.

16.05 is a minor version, went straight to RC, no beta.
