UTM to XG Firewall Transition

Hi Everyone

Just a quick Question

If one wants to upgrade to the latest XG Firewall from a UTM 9 device, do you have to configure everything from start or is there a way to backup and restore ?

    Hello again Francois,

    the last thing i was reading on this topic was that up to now you would have to start from scratch, they are working on an upgrade path from UTM 9 to XG where the configuration is migrated, but this not finished yet as far as I know.

    Can I migrate from SG UTM to the new XG Firewall?

    Yes. As a Sophos SG UTM customer with a valid license, you are entitled to migrate to XG Firewall when the timing is right for you. We strongly urge customers to be patient and wait for the automated migration tools for the best migration experience.

    The only problem with this, is that we've all been waiting over 12 months since this FAQ was published and still the migration tools are not available.  So, according to Sophos' strong recommendations, all UTM users wishing to migrate to XG are stuck on UTM.  UTM is great but it's time Sophos got their act in gear with this.

    The UTM is such a nice product, if it wasn't for the IPS problem

    What IPS problem? I think you are mixing up forums, the XG has a large number of IPS issues which are not being addressed.

    As a business I would recommend you stay with the UTM, it is way better than the XG. If you have not used UTM for long, then you might be lulled by the XG talk.

    The XG is still a long way from being the UTM equal, maybe by the end of v17 release.
