Yahoo Mail Search Error

Unfortunately we use free Yahoo Mail service.  We are having a problem with our SG 125 appliance.  When using Yahoo Mail, if you try to perform a search for emails the UTM blocks the search and comes back with no results.  I have tried to make exceptions for the URL with no luck.  I am new to Sophos utm though so I might not be making the exception correctly.  I do know that when I turn off the web filter policy the search function works just fine.  We only subscribe to the web filtering license.  Please let me know if anyone has any suggestions.  Thanks.

  • Did you already look in the webfiltering log for events logged while doing searches? If so, can you post some lines of the log here?

  • Hi Darron,

If you want Yahoo Mail fully functional, simple add it in the "allow these website" box within the filter action that blocks it. After adding the domain for yahoo mail, select the check box "include sub domains".

    Thanks

  • Yes we were able to successfully create the exception after some help from tech support.  I was trying to use the mg.mail.yahoo.com as the URL to be exempted but it actually just ended up being the yahoo.com domain to work correctly.   The only problem is that now the web ads are showing up again within yahoo mail.  I think I will play with the options as far as what to exclude inside of the exception.  I will see how it goes but for now case solved.  It takes a little getting used to how to correctly configure the UTM 9 exceptions as you can do it in 3 different places, 3 different ways!  lol
