  • Hi Wason,

The only supported internal wireless adaptors are the ones found in the Sophos branded SG/XG1xx series, third party and custom internal wireless solutions are not supported by the software installation.

It sucks, I know, I have a CI321 as well and I can't used the Wireless either!

  • OK Many Thks "EmileBelcourt" :)
I Think it's Important Function. I Try for use another way example use "access point" for connect or "USB Wireless Adaptor" I'm Not Sure "USB Wireless Adaptor" can use share wireless and Sophos UTM Found this hardware example D-Link , Zyxel , Cisco or another Brand ??

My Problem Question 2 Sophos XG Firewall 16.01.1-202 (Software Version) I Try Install "Zotac ZBox Nano CI323" But I Cannot Connect Sophos XG.
Sophos XG Firewall Not Support Dual LAN (Ethernet) ??

I Think Sophos UTM and Sophos XG (Software) is can Support More Than Hardware ; Still More than.

  • hi,

as EmileBelcourt already mentioned it is not possible to use other wlan adapters than the ones build in the hardware-models. also no usb-wlan will be supported.

think its not a problem for sophos to implement hardware-support for it.. but they dont want it i think.

  • Hi Zaphod,

You're right, it's a commercial problem not a development option. There is a thread about it that came up last year about why Sophos won't support custom third party built in wireless controllers and I agree with the answer of "no" they were getting at.

Basically it boils down to there are trillions of built in wireless controllers that all will require potentially individual drivers for. From this developers will have to integrate this then quote they can support this and every time they make a new version release they have to test compatibility with those as well. It's just not commercially worth it to distract feom their SG/XG1xx range which has that pre-built custom integration.

Tbh, i dont want to use a client type wireless card turn as a broadcaster for more than one person to connect to, just doesn't feel right!

In regards to XGv16 not fully installing to your Zotac, please update the BIOS to the spec stated here:

  • I Has Try Latest Install SuSE Linux Enterprise Desktop 12 SP1 CI323.
It's work SuSE Has found Wireless Adaptor Name "Wireless 3160".
I Will Try Update BIOS Test this

  • no one said that wireless will not work with other linux distributions ;-)

maybe try to extract the wireless driver from this distribution and bring it into the sophos utm... with some comand line work... think some others tried this and failed... but who knows ;-)

  • Hi Zaphod,

I tried this, but the Wireless Interface Control Software also doesn't exist and I looked at trying to extract the control software from hardware and pushing it into the software deployment.

I literally just went "f*** that" and decided it wasn't worth the effort. I can state with absolute certainty you will not be able to load this kind of stuff into the XG because it has a very locked down backend using BusyBox and whereas in the UTM you can use the root level kernel access, in the XG you have a virtual restricted user and as of yet I've not found of a way to move out of BusyBox and play directly with the kernel.

Wason, please remember that although the UTM is built upon SUSE linux, a lot of the kernel functionality has been stripped out to enhance the performance :)

  • Can you give me adapter which definitely work?
