How to filter Nudity from Tumblr and Search Engines.

Forgive Me as this may be the wrong forum, but I am looking to block all access to Nudity on my Apartment's network.  This includes Tumblr and Search Engine Results.  I've tried several ways to block the search engine results, but I run into an issue when trying to connect to Google.  The Category that is being Blocked is Nudity.  Sites that include pornography are blocked, however sites like tumblr that include XXX content are not blocked, as well as Search Engine Results such as Google, Bing, Yahoo, etc.  I really want to get to the point to where all access to nudity is blocked.  I am new to web filtering, so please keep all replies simple and easy to understand.  Below I have included screenshots of my setup.

  • I do.  If you refer to my screenshots, SafeSearch is Enabled for all three search engines.  When I enable Decrypt and Scan Mode, I cannot connect to google because of an insecure connection as shown below:

And I would also like to know how to block tumblr.com as well as ALL Nudity access on my apartment's network.

  • Hi Jordan,

To run HTTPS Decrypt and Scan you will have to install the HTTPS SSL Proxy CA as a trusted root certificate, you can download this from Web Protection > Filtering Options > Misc tab and here is how to install a certificate in the trusted root: https://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc754841(v=ws.11).aspx

If you want to block tumbletrigger, on the filter action you can add it to the website block list or you can add a Tag (with your name of choice) and set it to block then under Web Protection > Filtering Options > Websites, create new website for tumblr.com and check "include subdomains" and add the tag you created.

If you want to block all nudity, under Web Protection > Filtering Options > Categories tab, you can create a category that includes all sub categories you want to block then back on your filter action that category you created will be there which you can set to block.

Please remember the UTM is not going to image recognition to tell whether it's looking at John Cena or the naked form, it does it's blocking based on third party categorisation lists, everything else is down to you to put as much effort in as you can to block as many websites as you feel necessary.
