There is no slave node, please check your HA System

Hi All

Hoping you could help me with some input here .. We have 2x SG230 UTM's setup in an Active / Passive HA cluster.

I receive the following notification email once every 3 months per say - which indicates that node ID 1 (master) is offline and that node ID 2 is now the Master.

" [CRIT-080] HA System: There is no slave node, please check your HA System "

This works as it is designed to, However upon physical inspection - I see that both UTM's are still powered up, but node 1 has it's LCD panel frozen (IE not cycling through the usual stats).

The only way to get the HA cluster back online is to give the frozen node a hard power cycle.

I have logged a case with the Sophos UTM support helpdesk - but even when reviewing the logs - the reason why this happens can not be identified.

Has anyone else possibly run into this before by any chance ?

Could this possibly be down to a hardware issue ? I say this as it has only happened to node ID 1.

Thoughts ?

  • Yes, hardware issue related to node 1.  If swapping the Ethernet cables between the nodes on the Sync and Backup interfaces doesn't change the behavior, try swapping  the UPS connections to the two units.  If the results haven't changed, I would insist on a replacement of node 1.
