Firmware 9.4 Overwrites existing 72-vmware-net.rules for those running more than 4 nics on VMWare

Hi All

For those using VMware with more than 4 nics.

You will know of the reoccurring problem of nics order being rearranged and having to edit /etc/udev/rules.d/72-vmware-net.rules.

Well with the 9.4 upgrade this file gets over written (Thanks Sophos).

It would be nice to have this finally fixed.

  • I approached this a slightly different way to work around the firmware update issue (still should be fixed by Sophos).

I edited the 70-persistent-net.rules, ordering them in that file.

    I linked that to 73-persistent-net.rules (ln -s 70-persistent-net.rules 73-persistent-net.rules).

Then it doesn't matter if the 72-vmware-net.rules file is there, overwritten, etc.

Yes, it basically orders them, reorders, then reorders again, but it worked for me and survived the 9.3 - 9.4 update.

  • Hi Brent

Like wise I do the same, but this time it still managed to ignore and or over write.

A little frustrating when you go to the problem of doing this extra work.

To find that damm you have no internal interface.
