Problem getting connection to new switch

In order to reorganize our environment we got a new switch. To setup everything for this I need to make an uplink from the UTM9 to the new core switch and wanted to create new interface in the menu. As soon as i want to attach the VLANs we´re using it keeps telling me those IPs are already in use by our old switch (which I can´t take off until the setup is finished) Routing will be done by UTM9

Is there a way to give all the information and ISP connection to the new switch using the VLANs without taking off the old switch? I´ve read already couple of days boards and threats but haven´t found a solution yet.

specifications:
Type: Ethernet VLAN
Hardware: Intel Corp. 82599EB 10Gbit SFI/SFP+ Network connection
VLAN Tag: VLAN IDs I want to submit
IPv4 : wondering I can only use one, but want to attach different VLANs here

On new Switch ( H3C S7506E-S)
Already made the uplink SFP port as trunk port and tagged this one with VLAN IDs I created on the switch

I would be grateful if someone could give me a hint on this topic

  • I don't see how this transition is possible without downtime.  The length of the outage will depend on the complexity of the changes and the quality of your plan.

  • Hello Bob,

    Thank you for your reply.

So actually it will be not possible to use the same interface (with VLAN settings) on 2 hardware ports?

I would like to check if the connection is working correct before taking out the old switch

    Cheers,

  • Hi Michael,

    Greetings.

Sophos UTM will not allow to override IP address if it is already in use.

But to simply the process, you can contact Sophos partner to provide you with a spare UTM which should have same Firmware and Model as per your original UTM. You can then import the backup on the spare UTM device and make necessary changes for the new Switch. Later, the back up from spare UTM can be uploaded on the original UTM. This will provide you a quick swap and minimum downtime.

    Thanks

  • Hey Sschin Gurung,

sounds like a good plan. I think we still have an old firewall in stock from sophos which I might can use.
I´ll give it a try and can solve it for a fast exchange.

    Thanks for the advice.

    Regards,

    Michael
