I'm stumped trying to figure this out.
I'm a home lab user. I looked at various UTM vendors. Settled on Sophos UTM to use at home. I want to get familiar with it before trying to use it in an office environment.
I installed sophos and for the firewall used the 5 rules that were setup at install. Internal network to Any for DNS+TerminalApps+Email+FileTranser+WebSurf.
It worked fine in the beginning. I then started enabling some other features, like Web filtering. Still worked ok.
Then without making changes, I began to notice some iPads couldn't get out on the internet. That eventually spilled over to other machines also and now nothing going thru UTM can access the internet.
So for troubleshooting, I shutoff all the features. Just have the firewall running as that can't be shutoff.
The WAN interface is up. (PPPoe)
I can web surf and ping devices on the LAN just fine.
I have another router hooked up to the same DSL modem (bridge mode) and it works fine when devices are routed thru it.
I can ssh into the sophos utm and from there ping the outside world. So I know the WAN interface is working fine.
No LAN devices can ping anything on the internet going thru sophos. DNS works ok, the ping does not. But that might be a sophos config setting that is preventing pings from working.
Both the ping and web surf hang instead of being disconnected. They seem stuck up inside the UTM. When I view the firewall live log, I don't see my traffic being DROP'd. I see some other stuff from the outside being dropped.
