I have a MacBook Pro laptop with 250GB internal drive with only 45GB of files running Mac OS X 10.7.5 Lion and Time Machine working perfectly until I ran Sophos virus detector while the external backup drive was attached and it reported a Trojan in 3 email attachments on the backup drive. So I selected "clean up" the 3 email attachments with trojan notices and now I cannot backup to that external 1TB Western Digital Passport drive that is 70% empty. The Time Machine backup process runs but at the end I now get an error message that says "Backup failed because of an error while copying files to the backup disk" I tried over and over several times but always get the same message. I can access the previously backed up files but cannot add any new backup - Disk Utility Repair Disk process says the drive is OK and there is a file on the backup drive that is labelled as "backup in progress" but it still says "in progress" after 24 hrs. I deleted that file and tried again but get the same result. I also ran Western Digital Drive Utility: checked Drive Status, Scan, and Complete Drive Test and it passed all three as OK no errors -any explanation or solution please? thanks
