Newbie here...
I recently discovered sophos and already love it!
I have set it up as my home's firewall appliance, using a spare PC I had laying around.
I have managed to setup things the way I like, including reverse proxying and VPN to my house.
In a drawer I also foung a Huawei E220 3g/UMTS modem (which saw it is compatible with sophos) and decided to give a try as a failover solution.
I plugged it on a spare port and after a reboot (well, 2 reboots, actually), the UTM detected it and I managed to add it as a standby interface.
Now to my questions:
[LIST=1]
- I saw that the interface was appearing down. I disabled the primary wan interface and after a while the 3g changed its state to UP and was actually showing 3 bars of signal. However I was not able to access the internet. Is there anything else to configure? Does the appearance of the signal bars mean that it has internet connection?
- Is there a way to actually verify that this interface connects to the ISP and internet connection is available? Any logs that I can see, or any commands to run via ssh?
- Is there a way to be alerted that the backup interface is UP, in order to take action asap (data plans cost a bit, so if e.g. the phone cable was just unplugged by a kid, so easy fix, I will be able to look into it faster and not consume 3g data unnecessarily)
- Is there a way to configure the UTM so that if the backup 3g interface kicks in, no bandwidth consuming stuff (e.g. torrenting) is allowed, but only e.g. HTTP/HTTPS (and of course return to normal when the primary interface is connected again)?
Thanks in advance for any help you can provide
