best practices for joining a windows server 2012 r2 box to vpn

I'm fairly new to vpn (well networking in general) i have a server 2012 box I want to vpn back into HQ

what type of vpn should i use
how do i prep the connection on the utm side
how do it set it up on the server side

Thanks

  • Rob, are you saying that you have a 2012r2 server in a remote office and that you want to connect it via VPN to the UTM in the main office?

For speed and security, I would configure an IPsec connection using the "AES-128 PFS" Policy or the "AES-128 GCM PFS" if either or both devices has a CPU that has AES-NI.  The best security is to use certificates; see How to create an X509 key based Site-to-Site VPN.

Try getting started with that and then come back with specific questions.

    Cheers - Bob
