Sophos UTM on Mac Mini

Hi all,

Got a new Mac mini and wanted to put UTM 9.3 on it. I have the .iso image, I've tried making a bootable USB and installing it with no luck. Tried a bootable cd as well. Anyone had luck putting it on a Mac mini? I feel like it's right in front of my fave but I'm doing something wrong. I hold option durin boot, and the startup manager opens but the bootable drive/cd is not displayed. I would ultimately like a dual boot system on this but I don't know how. Any suggestions?

    Boot Options:
    Command-R   - Boot to OS X Recovery Mode
    Alt/Option        -  Access Mac Startup Manager
    C                -  Boot to CD, DVD, or USB
    N                -  NetBoot
    Shift                -  Safe Boot
    Command-V   - Verbose Mode

    You should hold C while the mac is booting. With this option you can boot from CD or USB.

    Thank you for the boot commands. I have tried all of these and they work, however, the Sophos image on a bootable USB drive nor on a DVD will not show up on startup manager, or recovery mode. Pressing "C" during boot doesn't work either. This is a brand new Mac mini...

    gengle1984: how do you add a second NIC to the mac mini? i think you'd be better off using OSX on the mac mini and vmware/virtualbox ontop, than you can add a second/third NIC via USB or thunderbold and also use the mac mini as a small serverplatform.

    Curious: whats the power consumption on idle? i think the older mac minis had a very low usage of around 8-9 Watt.

    Another solution would be:
    1. Install ESXI 6.0 which runs out of the box for mac mini
    2. Connect to the freshly installed hypervisor
    3. Install Sophos UTM 9.3 as a virtual machine.

    The only problems I had with this setup were missing ipv6-Adresses but it could be the fault of my ISP

    The onboard nic should be detected and as a second nic I recommend apple's thunderbolt Network Adapters

    I am running on a late 2012 i5 2.5Ghz Mac Mini with an Apple Thunderbolt-to-ethernet as the 2nd NIC. Both NICs are identified as Broadcom NICs and the box idles ~15W

    Since the Mac Mini's lost the internal DVDROM drive a couple of years back, you will need to boot off a USB external DVDROM drive. Its too much hassle and work to try to boot them off a bootable USB stick. 

    I would eventually like to install Xen hypervisor over the Mac Mini with the UTM as a guest VM. Either that or ESXi

    Just asking 
    Does somebody know, if sophos can see the internal flash drive of the mac mini 7,1 2014.
    It has a new device ID and is often not detected by ahci drivers.

    Can someone confirm it works?
