Problems with Static IP on Comcast Biz

Hi

I have a comcast biz static ip

the netgear d3000 cable modem provided to me is set to dhcp and currently gives the router an WAN ip of 10.1.10.64 with a default gateway of 10.1.10.1



I called them and asked them to turn of dhcp (which they did) and set me to my correct ip address

96.88.228.9  with a /30 255.255.255.252 subnet and a gateway of 96.88.228.10


when i set my ethernet to static and enter the values listed above  the connection gives an up indicator but does not route traffic (can not get to webpages but i can from the router ping 96.88.228.10)

the Comcast tech said that in the arp cache he could see 192.168.40.1 which is the LAN gateway (again i confirmed that eth1"wan" was going to modem and eth0 LAN was going to the switch AND the system was working with DHCO enabled and no hardware was changed)


If i plug my laptop into the rotuer with the network port configured to the settings listed above i was able to reach the web



any suggestions as to what might be happening and what i can do to troubleshoot

    make sure you ahve the wan interface setup for ethernet and then with the proper information for the static ip entered.  Once you ahve verified your end then get comcast on the horn and get that setup.  Once that is done power cycle the modem and try again.  There is a misconfiguration somewhere. bridge mode means not only is dhcp off but the firewall is off too..basically the "gateway" becomes a modem.  if that has not been done it won't work.  

    why do you need the static for anyway?  Depending on your answer there's another way that is much easier AND saves you a fair amount of money monthly.
