Upgrading to SG Series

Hi,

I have an older Astaro UTM 220 which has been having performance issues for a while and I have decided to reinstall using a fresh iso (it currently has the latest UTM 9 version installed).  As I was looking around on the Sophos website, I noticed this upgrade guidance for UTM 220 appliances.  https://www.sophos.com/en-us/support/resource-centers/unified/upgrade-center.aspx

However, I have not (yet) purchased a new SG Series appliance (plan to do so in the Spring when my current license is up for renewal), so do I need to do the license upgrade that it mentions in this article?  Or is that only for those who purchased a new appliance and want to apply their old license to the new box?

My next question is, the old UTM 220 can hardly keep up anymore with only 1GB of RAM and an ancient processor.  What is the cheapest way for me to upgrade to a new UTM appliance?

Thanks.

  • Yes, you will need a license upgrade.  I suggest you contact a good reseller (Sophos has a link that you can use to search) that can help you with your purchase and licensing upgrade, etc.
