Newbie/Dummy

Dear All,

I am a newbie and an IT dummy in this whole proxy/firewall thing.

I managed with the help of some friends to install Sophos UTM Home edition to manage my home network. The main reason to install this is to control data usage quotas for the devices connected to my home hotspot, bandwidth throttling and basic web filtering.

I managed to get it working and did some Static IP mapping for the devices by their MAC addresses. I tried doing some Country Blocking and some Application control logging. Everything seems to be working fine so far.

I have many questions that I could not find any answer in knowledge database, user bulletin or any website.

1) Is there a way that I can create quota _data usage_ per MAC address or host? If yes, please explain the steps to do it.

2) Is there a way that I can view activity by MAC address or host? If yes, please explain the steps to do it.

3) Can I block certain MAC address from accessing a specific website for a specific time? If yes, please explain the steps to do it.

Please consider in your replies that I am an IT dummy [:)] so please be merciful and don't use IT terms that an IT dummy won't understand.

    Hi, you can create Network Definitions using MAC addresses.

    After that, you can do #3 and #2, and possibly #1 (I haven't looked at that myself).

    I am not to sell my bandwidth to anyone. This is my home network and I want some help on what I mentioned in my initial mail.

    Usually people who would sell any IT service (including bandwidth) would have some IT knowledge that wouldn't ask such questions like mine!!!!

    Thanks Barry, but as the title says, I am a complete dummy/newbie. Would you be so kind to guide me through the steps on how to do #2, #3 and if #1 I would really appreciate that.

    After creating the Network Definitions by MAC I mentioned,

    2 - look at the Reporting section

    3 - firewall rules can be time based, as can Web Protection Profiles.
    If using Web Protection, do it there; otherwise use firewall rules.
