Astero backup / restore

We needed to increase the drive space on our virtual UTM device. I looked around on how to do this without spinning up a new utm but it did not seem possible. 
I made a new VM and installed the latest iso version 9.209-8 (same as my current utm). Went to restore from the latest backup expecting it to be as it was but it would not import it. No errors or logs, it warned me it would log me out which it did (instantly) but when I logged back in nothing had changed and all the settings were still default. 

I decided to roll it back to the original iso 9.1.xx something. This imported the latest backup and pulled 99% of the settings across, I then updated it back to the latest with up2date. It misses one of the interface configuration settings which prevented internet access & the endpoint protection was disabled. 
When I try to re-enable it I just get a socket error and again no logs. 

When I try to restore a backup it happens in seconds and the backups are only 1MB in size. Is this normal? 
My other question is if I was to get the endpoint enabled again, what happens to all the clients that were assigned to the old UTM? My hope was they would get transferred with the backup / restore. 

Am I missing a key point here or is there a way to manually export the settings out of the old utm and import them into the new one? All I wanted was to expand the storage drive seems crazy I had to go about it like this..

    What virtualization are you using?  If it's ESXi, you should be able to enlarge your disk and partitions.

    Backups of 1MB are normal.  Remember, this is just the configuration file - no logs, SQL databases, etc. are backed up.  If you're using Quarantine Reports in the SMTP Proxy, you will want to warn folks to release anything they want out of the quarantine.

    Your Endpoint configuration should come through.

    What do you mean that it wouldn't import the backup?  You mean you couldn't load it into the list of available backups so that you could restore from it?  Or, that you booted the new VM with a USB memory stick containing a configuration backup in its root directory and that wouldn't load?  What do you mean that the settings were default?  Or, are you talking about a backup of the complete VM?

    The host is running ESX 5.5, I expanded the disk within vsphere. But there is no way to expand the storage drive within the Sophos UTM as far as I can tell so the space is just unallocated. Did I miss something from within the portal to finish this action off? 

    There is currently nothing stored on the UTM as mail isnt enabled yet, thats actually why I am in the mess as we want to run some mail through it and that is what the extra space is for.  All I need migrating is current config / settings for everything that is enabled on the UTM. 

    Endpoint is enabled on the original UTM with several clients on it. On the new UTM after it restored it was disabled and when I try to enabled it I get the socket error. 

    I made a backup on the old UTM and downloaded it which was about 1mb. On the new UTM after the fresh install and on first start up it gives you the option to upload and restore from backup, I browse to this > click upload and it warns me it will log me out once it has been restored. It logs me out instantly allowing me to log straight back in but nothing has been restored. 
    I just clicked through the default setup and tried to do it from the backup / restore menu and it would import the backup file but always did the same as above once I clicked restore. 

    The only was I could get this to work was to install a previous version and restore the backup but it didnt fully restore as explained above.
