Which UTM Model to Choose???

I am looking at replacing my current firewall/utm device with something new, so I have been researching different options from Sophos, Fortinet, Sonicwall, and Cisco.  After giving the Sophos UTM a test drive on my own hardware, I have been fairly impressed with its capabilities.  It is very unique compared to the other vendors and offers some great features.  That leaves me with what Sophos UTM model is right one for my environment.  I am looking for a hardware appliance and my initial guess at it would be the UTM 220, but I wanted to get some BB input.

I have a 35 user environment with a synchronous 20Mbps internet pipe that will probably grow to 30Mbps in the next 12 months.  I would like the ability to use IPS, AV, and web filtering with minimal impact on throughput.  Does the UTM 220 sound like the right device?

    Hi, Vertech, and welcome to the User BB!

    The SG series might be a better choice, but the power of these is not yet well known here.  Your best bet it to contact a good reseller and work with them.  This BB is not a place to make official contact with Sophos employees.

    Thanks for the reply and the information.  I will check out the SG series.  

    My intent was not to make contact with Sophos employees but to ask actual customers who are already using Sophos products for their recommendations.  Many times there can be a disconnect between sales specs and reality, so I was just curious what others are using in a similar type environment and if it is working well for them.

    We use a UTM 220 for 30 users and a 10MB connection.  We are using Firewall, IPS, email protection, endpoint protection, web filtering and web server protection.  Once we got it tuned it runs great!  We will be purchasing a backup appliance because if the UTM 220 dies we would be in a world of hurt.  

    With that said, we will be purchasing an SG210 which will become our main gateway device and the UTM 220 will become our backup/failover device.

    Dave, because of licensing issues, you can't use a 220 as a failover device for a 210.

    Since the new SG 135 appears to have better specs than the UTM 220, why not ask your reseller to get you a trial of that?  There's only a few minutes max of downtime to switch from the 220 to the 135 or back.  Another option might be a 50-IP license with your own, 1U server.
