Maximum VLANs supported?

Hi,

Coming from the Cisco world and looking at the SG series as replacements. 

One important consideration is the number of virtual (VLAN) interfaces that can be added to the firewall. That number is 400 for the ASA 5550 which are the models we have now.

Every other firewall vendor I can think of -- Fortigate, Watchguard, Sonicwall, PA and so on -- all list the max number of VLAN interfaces on their spec sheets. Sophos/Astaro does not. I've scoured the forums, read the manual and can't seem to find an answer.

Does anyone happen to know the maximum number of interfaces supported? Does that number change depending upon the firewall model?

    Hi, and welcome to the User BB!

    The limit is 4096 VLANs, and has been for at least ten years.  There's no functional difference in the software from model to model, so the real issue will be sizing correctly for the load at each site.

    Hi,

    I agree with Bob, there is no software limitation on how much VLAN sub interfaces you can use as long as the hardware is sized correctly (line speed of the interface, packets per second, utilisation of the sub interfaces, are you using IPS/IDS on those interfaces etc...).

    EDIT: By unlimited I mean maximum supported by standard.

    Note VLAN1 is not available (reserved for APs), and VLAN0 is not supported.
