UTM 110/120 and Basic License questions

Hi,

i am interested to buy an UTM 110/120 for my Home/Office and run it with Baic Guard (110). 

Some things are not clear to me... i can only find Stores that sell Sophos Hardware Appliance 110/120 where i live. I know there are Bundles that come with a 1 year Basic Guard License and the Hardware (more expensive). In most Online Stores i can only find Basic Guard Renewal Licenses.

So my question is: 

Does the UTM 110/120 come with any license if its not sold as one of those Bundles with Basic Guard ?. If not, are new  non Renewal Basic Guard Licenses aviable somewhere to buy ? otherwise the box would be useless.

So i don't know if i should buy the UTM in a local store or search for a store that sells the Hardware with a License Bundle.

    Hardware does not come with licensing (except a 30 day trial).  Licensing will always be an additional line item for more cost.  As you've found, some web stores do offer a bundle with a slight discount.  Generally speaking, you do not want to purchase from web stores (like CDW as an example), as they do not have any support.  UTM pricing with license, which is industry standard for the market, is really geared towards businesses and there will be a high cost (somewhere around $1100 for one year for a 110/120).  

    If this is for home use only, you are much better off using the free home license on your own hardware, which for the cost of just the 120 hardware (around $600 I believe), you can put together your own system with more RAM and CPU power.

    If you are dead set on the 120 with Basic Guard, contact Sophos sales (Enterprise Firewall Appliance | Next Gen UTM Firewall Solutions | Sophos) to put you in contact with a GOOD reseller with a track record of supporting the product.

    the man did say home/office, so the free one doesn't really suit him.

    Depends on how many devices he wants to run through the UTM at any anyone time. A full icence for 10 users on your own equipment is less than you suggested. But a 110/120 has unlimited licences, just what the hardware is capable of supporting which using v9 and some features will be very limited, but more than 10?

    As you advised a reseller is probably the best option, but some guidance from this forum would make his questions more relevant.
