Why are UTMs so hard (expensive) to buy?

Hi,

Can anyone advise if it's possible to buy a UTM without the bundled "configuration service"?  Last time I bought one I'd already built a trial VM, configured it and made sure it worked for our needs.  I then just bought the UTM 110/120 and migrated my config across, with a few tweaks to the interfaces and away we went.

I've just tried to do the same for a new branch office, and I'm now being told we can only buy it with an initial setup service, at a cost of £750, on top of the £550 purchase price and £1100p/a subscription.

Apparently this means I'll get the unit, connect it up, then pass it over to Sophos' rep for up to half-a-day's "remote installation".  I don't need this, I've done the configuration already and I'm pretty familiar with the device by now.  I'm struggling to understand exactly what the service is, or what they'll be able to do that would justify that cost, but I'm told I can't buy it without.

It looks like if I was in the US I could just buy it from any number of authorised dealers on Amazon, like I would with a SonicWall or Fortinet, but not in the UK?  

Is this right, or is our reseller trying to stitch me up?  If it is correct, what  exactly does this service offer that I can't do myself?

    The setup service is something being added by that specific reseller that you're working with.  Try shopping around with different resellers.

    so you only want to purchase a utm without the reseller helping you configure it?  I do that..but i'm in the us.  shop around for a more compatible reseller in the uk..
