SG230 Performance with red

Hi Guys,  Can the new SG230 with all features activated able to handle a 100/100 fibre connection along with 10 RED 10/50?  At the launch event they said all SG series have AES-NI for faster encryption/decryption. Is that the case for the SG230 even though it only has a pentium processor?  

We are planning for :

Main office : 100/100Mb  (50 devices) SG230

5x sites : ADSL2   ( 15 devices  each ) RED 10

5 x sites : 20/20Mb ( 25 devices each ) RED 50

    Hi, Alexx, and welcome to the User BB!

    I think it's only units with an i5 or an i7 that do AES-NI, plus maybe some of the newer Xeon processors.

    I guess the 230 might work, but that depends on the volume of traffic with the remote sites and the usage level of your internal users.  You should get a reseller to give you quotes and recommendations - so that he has skin in the game.  Depending on the type and amount of traffic at the RED 10 sites, you might want RED 50 appliances there, too.

    Hi Bob,

    Thanks for the reply. Upon checking some other threads, it seems that the SG310 has an Intel  I3 4330 and according to intel it supports AES-NI but no one confirmed yet that it is the chip in the SG310.

    Alexx, I think the i3 does not do AES-NI, but that is the processor in the 310.  The 330 has an i5.

    Cool!  It does look like they added AES-NI to the 4th-gen i3 processors, so that would be the surest bet for you.  I still think a 230 might be all you need.

    We have 100Mbs links using the older 320 units and have 50 REDs 

    CPU never gets above 50 percent

    Was that with all features activated? IPS max as well?

    When you say links do you mean more than 1 100mb link?

    Ours will be a single 100/100 so i reckon it will be fine with max 10 reds

    We run Firewall, Web filtering, Wireless, Endpoint, RED, a couple of IPSec tunnels, lots of SNAT and DNAT routing for Lync

    We have 1 x 100Mbs link and failover to another link in another building via private building connections. We dont run the 2 together

    IDS can be a killer, we aren't using much just some basic stuff but most patterns turned off. We only host Lync and thats all reverse proxy stuff

    We have on average 100-120 internet thirsty users at each site 

    The new units are screamingly fast compared to the UTM 320
