Sophos made a big deal about their new hardware

I love Sophos UTM, dont get me wrong, and a new hardware appliance would be nice, especially their new products, the SG series.

I was implressed by their recent release video of the SG hardware, and thought, hang on, that platform looks familiar.... no, its not designed by their German design engineers like the video says, but its an OEM platform made by portwell.


CAR-3040 Intel Haswell Network Appliance, LGA 1150 1U Server LGA 1150 Intel H81/B85 PCH
CAR-4020 1U Network Appliance Intel C226 PCH Haswell i7/i5 CPU

Anyway, if you want to save a few bucks, perhaps shop around for these devices.

    I'm not really knocking the fact. However what advantage (say apart from warranty) does the Sophos device have over the OEM device? Are there any special features added that make it have more value?

    Could I say purchase a number of OEM devices and resell the unit with UTM on it and my own branding and would I save a few $ / £ ?

    Forgot to respond to this one:

    You CANNOT rebrand the UTM software, it's against the licensing agreement, and if you are a partner, against your partner agreement.  That would be a mistake (likely a costly one).

    However, you can certainly provide your own hardware, install LICENSED Sophos UTM Software Licenses on it, and sell it to your customer.  You can't rebrand the software as yours, though.
