Comcast just upgraded my home connection to 105/10. I ran some torture testing here and i was easily able to cause some good load spikes on the firewall and it while not being a bottleneck..yet..was getting close. So with great trepidation i decided to add the second pair of vcpus. I then ram my torture testing again. This time with the new 9.2GA installed i did not see the dreaded snort slowing down everything. While snort is still single threaded it was able to "push" the system and initiate a proper ramp of cpu speeds with 4 vcpus. This means i can now run this VM at full speed(in balanced power made) and i won't have snort slowing me down. Whatever Sophos did this go around has drastically improved IPS performance...[:)] With me now able to run 4 vcpus and not having to lock the machine into balls to the wall all the time it will be nice to see the non-impact on my power bill and i'm not locked into a DC config so I have proper ramping of cpu GHZ.
