Do all VM NICS support VLAN tags?

I have seen the HCL (Hardware Compatibility List) for the UTM 9 software and am wondering if that still applies for the virtual machine configuration.

In particular to support VLAN tagging, do all virtual VM NICs support VLAN tagging or does the underlying physical NIC need to support VLAN tagging?

    The Underlying hardware NIC needs to support VLAN tagging.

    Side note

    If using HYPER-V you will need to setup tagging on the hyper v switch.

    On a virtual gateway with 2 VLANs it will look like you have two separate NICs on the UTM

    For ESXi you can set the switch to vlan all and have the UTM manage your vlans as if it was hardware appliance.

    Both hyperv (12, 8 standard 4 legacy) and esxi (10) have an upper limit on how many network adapters A VM can host.
