UTM VM versus UTM 110

Hi,

  I'm interested in some of the Sophos solutions and am getting confused about what I would need to purchase.

Requirements:

Setup Hub & Spoke network with 100+ spokes
VPN from each remote office to main office
Up to 30 VLANS in each remote office
If VLAN down, then internet access allowed directly out of firewall.
Simplify import to countries worldwide, Africa, Europe, Asia

Analysis,

  Initially the Sophos UTM virtual machine looks attractive.

  The RED devices are interesting, though I don't think they can support 30 VLANS.

Current solution

  We currently use Juniper SSG-140

Questions

 - If I just download and install the Sophos VM does that include the free "Basic Guard"?
 - How many VLANs does "Basic Guard" support"?
 - Can I just purchase support for the plain VM?
 - What is maximum VLANs that VM can support?

This table seems to indicate the Basic Guard might fit our needs, though it might only apply to hardware appliance 110.

    Hi sthubbar,

    As Ian stated, we still need more information about traffic flows to understand what your requirements are. How many Users/IPs at each spoke. How many at the hub? What services are provided across the VPN links? What routers will be at the spokes? (Sophos or 3rd party)

    One thing I would strongly recommend, given how many spokes you need (assuming a spoke is a separate office), is to speak with an experienced Astaro/Sophos UTM partner in your region who's tackled a project of this scope.

      OK, thanks for the feedback.  I understand.  I am in the information collecting phase and trying to get an understanding of various different alternatives.

      I think I have a general understanding of the Sophos solution and capabilities.

      Let me clarify with the client and then I'll come back here with more details as needed.
