UTM VM versus UTM 110

Hi,

  I'm interested in some of the Sophos solutions and am getting confused about what I would need to purchase.

Requirements:

Setup Hub & Spoke network with 100+ spokes
VPN from each remote office to main office
Up to 30 VLANS in each remote office
If VLAN down, then internet access allowed directly out of firewall.
Simplify import to countries worldwide, Africa, Europe, Asia

Analysis,

  Initially the Sophos UTM virtual machine looks attractive.

  The RED devices are interesting, though I don't think they can support 30 VLANS.

Current solution

  We currently use Juniper SSG-140

Questions

 - If I just download and install the Sophos VM does that include the free "Basic Guard"?
 - How many VLANs does "Basic Guard" support"?
 - Can I just purchase support for the plain VM?
 - What is maximum VLANs that VM can support?

This table seems to indicate the Basic Guard might fit our needs, though it might only apply to hardware appliance 110.

    Hi and welcome,
    I can't answer you directly. I think there is a considerable amount of information you have left out.
    1/. how many users per vlan
    2/. how much traffic between central site and each spoke end
    3/. how many users overall
    4/. what is the bandwidth coming into the central site.

    Going on what you have specified a 110 will be too small

    A 110 will give you unlimited licences, but will not meet your vlan requirements as afar as I can tell.

      Let's focus on one topic, VLANS.  Why do you say "A 110 will give you unlimited licences, but will not meet your vlan requirements as afar as I can tell."

      The only mention I can find of VLAN limitations is in the UTM 9 administrators guide that says 4095 VLANS.  Are there other limitations based on the hardware appliances?

      How about for VMs, are they also 4095 VLANS?
