How to allow access to FTP site?

Hello, all!

Sorry for such a n00b question.  I'm new to Sophos and can't seem to figure this out!

I am trying to give access to myself so I can get downloads from Adobe for updates and such.  I've searched and searched and tried quite a few different things, but can't seem to open up FTP for myself.

We are running Sophos UTM9 Model: ASG425, Firmware version: 9.105-9.

    Hi, cramey, and welcome to the User BB!

    It's not clear exactly what you're wanting to do, so I'll assume that you're behind the UTM and, instead of allowing auto-downloads for updates, you want to use an FTP client like FileZilla to get them...

    First, on the 'Advanced' tab of 'Network Protection >> Firewall', confirm that the 'FTP' helper is selected.  Next, in 'Web Protection >> FTP', activate it, selecting 'Operation Mode: Both'.  Finally, follow the instructions there to configure FileZilla (or other FTP client).  Any luck with that?

    Hi Bob, 

    I think I'm in the same boat. I'm new to the Sophos UTM, and I'm also trying to FTP/SFTP out of my internal network to an external FTP server. 

    I've done what you said above: 
    * FTP Helper is on
    * FTP is activated in Web Protection with BOTH selected

    I'm still not able to FTP out. I figure I need to get FTP working before I move to SFTP, but ideally, I need SFTP working.

    part from Bob?

    SFTP runs on a different port and wouldn't be proxied; it'd need a firewall rule (and Masquerading).

    Sorry I never replied back.  I found a way around this at the time and had other things to contend with.  

    But now it's back.  My boss wants to download a pdf from the state which is available via ftp from a link on their website.  How can I allow this?  I've added the site in the exception list, but that didn't help.  I even added "^ftp?://([a-za-z0-9.-]*\.)?isbe\.net/" but that didn't work at all either.

    Ideas?

    Rather than trying to dig into your configuration, first try #1 in Rulz and also check the FTP Proxy and Web Filtering logs.

    Nothing shows in the logs.  If I go to isbe.net and browse, it shows that.  But downloading from ftp, nothing at all.

    Please press [Go Advanced] below and attach a picture of your FTP configuration. If Web Filtering is in a Standard mode, confirm that FRP is in 'Allowed target services' on the 'Advanced' tab.
