Slow throughput after update

Hi All,

I have updated the firmware to the latest 9.105-9 and now my speed has been greatly reduced. I have not changed any settings and all my interface are set to a gig full.

I bypassed the firewall ran a speed test and i'm getting my usual speeds. Before this new firmware update, I would run my speedtest through the firewall and the speeds would be similar or just about the same when bypassing the firewall. 

I had to ask for help on speed issues as I know how many factors effect speed, but my average throughput when going through the firewall has been a consistent 120mb down and 20mb up. 

After the update I'm getting about 30mb down and about 8 up. 

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

    Do you see any errors with ifconfig eth1?

    no errors at all... That was the first thing I checked. I swapped out the astaro with my checkpoint and palo alto devices and all was working with no problems.

    So I found the problem while checking each network protection and web filtering protection configurations.

    Here is the issue that I have been able to consistently replicate over and over again.

    I switched from sophos scanning engine to Avira and speedtest is showing my usual 120mb to 156mb.  Prior to that, the problem disappeared when disabled web filtering. 

    Also, doesn't appear to like webfiltering being enabled with antivirus scanning unchecked.
    That affected my speed as well.

    In order to minimize RAM usage, I like to just use the Avira single-scan everywhere and use Sophos Endpoint on the clients.  Depending on what version you're using, there have been some issues with the Sophos scan engine that I thought were fixed in 9.105-9.

    I thought the memory leak/AV issue with sophos would be fixed in this release as well. 

    Nevertheless, I have resolved my issue. Glad this is just my lab environment and not a production environment with my customers.

    I like the product and its potential but definitely pre-mature in alot of ways.

    I have many customers running 9.105-9, but none running Sophos AV at the perimeter.  Sophos AV is used by several with Endpoint Protection.

    Hello All,


    I am really curious to the relationship of throughput and the configuration on the webfilter settings. If I have scan using Antivirus selected, my speeds are through the roof. I do not have it selected then I get really crappy speeds, like half the speed that I usually get. I would like to think that it would be the opposite since scanning files should put more overhead on the device. 

    Also, I noticed that when i disable webfiltering all together, my speeds are significantly slower. 

    Can someone see if its just me with this issue or are others able to duplicate this as well.

    I am really curious to how that is possible.

    I didn't have this issue with the previous firmware.

    Can you explain how you test your speed, with webfiltering on and with webfiltering off?

    I'm using Astaro behind a 150mbit cable connection but I can't get the speed above 98mbit. Only when I connect my computer directly to the cable modem I get higher speeds. And I still don't know why...

    Hi,
    please describe your UTM hardware. ALso ytou might like to try the same tests with IPS turned off and report back here with the results.

    And try turning off application detection as well.

    Include the NICs in your hardware description.
