I have spent the past week getting my UTM 9.x up and running at home.
Last night I was clicking through the reports and the browser hung on the site.  [:(]

I waited 20+ minutes and eventually closed the browser and now the site does not come up at all.

What can I do besides restarting the whole UTM itself?

  • Is your UTM still working?
Did you try to restart your computer where the browser hung?

  • I tried to browse to the site from a different computer on the network and get the same result.  When I did a NMap against the IP address it saw that the port was open, but I still do not get a response.

I figured the web server serving the management site is having issues.  Can I restart that part of the UTM if I had shell access?
  • You probably can, however my linux skills are not good enough but it may be something like: /etc/init.d/httpd restart
You'll have to have shell access for that though, if you didn't configure it, then I don't think you can use that....

  • Hi, and welcome to the User BB!

It's extremely rare that a cold reboot causes a problem, so go ahead and try that if you can't get to the console.  If you haven't been to the command line and haven't set the root password yet, you can set it when you first sign in.

  • Thanks Bob.

I have a vague recollection of setting that password but I cannot find it in my pwd vault.  I presume I can do that some other way so I'll be looking at the admin guide for that tonight.

  • Hi ,

If you lost the roof password and webadmin is not accessible only factory reset is your option.
And if you have a working backup restore that backup.
Then hopefully everything will work , because without webadmin access and without root password then your system is useless and you can't do anything about that , only a factory reset and configure all over again.

    All my best.

  • I have the root login working, now I just need to know how to restart the web server.  I am admittedly a Linux noob.

What flavor of web server is the UTM using?
  • /etc/rc.d/httpd restart
