Tutorial: ISP and UTM/modem configuration

Hi All

After spending some time configuring various routers in bridge configuration in order to provide UTM a public IP address, I think others users will benefit from my troubleshooting. Below is a list of Global ISP and the configuration needed in order for your UTM appliance to get a public IP (Please send me via pm configuration for other ISP and I will add it here). Let's make a start

    Sky Broadband uses either MER or PPPoA. It will initially use MER (therefore you will need to have your sky router )during initialization phase (should be first 10 days or so). After that it will automatically convert to PPPoA.  I personally found that PPPoA is not quite working for me using UTM 120 (v9.X) so I got a vigor 120 which does PPPoA to PPPoe pass through . What that means is that vigor 120 will talk to Sky via PPPoA but your UTM will connect via PPPoE to vigor. 

    Also vigor has predefined settings will most UK ISP (0/38 for PPPoA). The only thing that you will need to do is to get the username/password for your Sky broadband. Once you get this you will need to configure your UTM to connect via PPPoE (MTU needed to be 1492) and you will immediately get a public IP (Vigor needs no configuration as by default it will do PPPoA to PPPoE pass through)

    Unfortunately Sky will not provide the username/password as using your own router is against the T&C. Thankfully enough you will be able to get them via searching the net
