Astaro Virtual Appliance

Hello.

Looking to find some information on the virtual appliance for vmware vsphere esx server.

Couple of quesitons right of the bat.

First, how does the internet connection work?  Do you need a separate ethernet connection on the esx server itself to represent the network connection from the ISP (wan side)?

Second, can the virtual appliance be vmotioned to other esx servers?  If so, how is the wan side network connection configured on multiple esx servers?

    Yes, you need a separate network for the WAN side (either by physical NIC or VLAN).

    For vMotion you need every ESX server to have connection to that separate network.
    A typical setup is a switch which is connected between the modem and the servers.

    Hi Tom,

    One other note, don't bother downloading the premade UTM appliances. Astaro's software ISO's (since v8) can sense you're installing into a vm and automatically install vmware tools for you.

    From scratch gives you full control over the setup so you can specify a larger disk then default, e1000 or vmxnet drivers, and whatever amout of RAM/CPU you want. Takes the same amount of time to download and the installer is almost as fast as VMware's own import wizard for vm's. [:)]

    As a partner, I was able to login and download the license key for the virtual appliance.  However, I cannot seem to find a place to download it?  Where can I get this?

    Do you mean upload it?  (ie Install license).

    Under web management, Management-Licensing-Installation tab.
    (Or if you run the install Wizard it asks for it).

    No, I mean download the actual iso software.

    Hi ,

    The ISO is in the FTP site drone the same you download the up2dates.
    Go to ftp://ftp.astaro.com/pub/UTM/v9/virtual_appliance/

    Download what you need.

    By the way , its not an ISO . 

    Virtual appliances does not comes in ISO format.

    Sorry , but I forgot one more thing,

    It's only 9.0x versions.
    There is no 9.1x and as far as I know there will be no 9.1x virtual .
    As far as I know but need to be checked there will be no more versions of virtual appliances , only hardware a appliances or software installs.

    Ok, thank you.  I think I'll just grab the software install anyway instead of the appliance.
