stop/start IPS

I want to stop/start the IPS with the command:
/var/mdw/scripts/snort stopp
/var/mdw/scripts/snort start
but the IPS ist'n affected (turned not to red in GUI). 
What is the snort process and what ist the right command to restart the IPS?

    Hi,

    I'm running 9.05...

    The 'stop' command reports 'failed', but after a few seconds, the snort process does stop running (according to 'top', 'ps', and /var/mdw/scripts/snort status )

    However, I also lose my internet connection. [:(]

    WebAdmin (including the dashboard and the IPS settings) shows the IPS is active, which is not correct.

    Is there some reason you don't want to use WebAdmin to stop it?

    Yes I'm also loosing the internet connection.
    I want to restart the IPS with a scheduled task (Windows) in the night.

    restarting isn't the answer...let's figure out what is going on.  First we need stats on the system:
    version of utm
    users
    modules in use
    wan connection type and speed
    cpu
    ram
    nics
    hdd


    also have you checked the logs as well?

    The IPS gets restarted every time there is a pattern update.

    What problem are you trying to solve?
