Need help understanding VoIP please

I'm trying to see how this VoIP works. I do the WiFi for my business, but I have not got into VoIP yet. Can any one give me suggestion about it?

voip phones needs servers to logon
Skype is pure voip server
ASG Voip purpose is to facilitate firewall rules and SIP Alg, has nothing to do with providing this service
