The way the translation reads, Sophos wants to add a 'tool' to collect data about what products are on the computers of Sophos users from the Enterprise suite - how many are protected, versions, OS, etc.
It seemed to focus on the Enterprise suite and didn't mention UTM specifically, but who knows with this. They said it is also covered under the terms of use for the AV product.
I think "spyware" is a bit strong, but, like Amodin says, that's what's happening. The goal is to see how their Enterprise Console is being used so that the developers will have a better idea of what should be done.
In the UTM, on the bottom of the 'Advanced' tab in 'WebAdmin Settings', you can select whether to participate in the 'Sophos UTM Improvement Program'. It seems to be the same thing.

For me no problem as long as I ve the option to say yes or no.
We are getting Sophos "UTM Improvement" message dialogs every couple of logins. I'd like to disable these prompts permanently, is there a way to do so?
Hi thomas, the improvement program (in fact used mainly by me) should only be prompting you to participate during a new installation or every major (9.1, 9.2 etc...) release. What we use it for is to determine some very high level aspects of plumbing only.
For example, do I need to account for the generic proxy in decision making if say only one customer in every thousand uses this? As part of a planned streamlining of webadmin, we really do value that input in order to make informed decisions (and also save hundreds of phone calls).
