Spamhaus DDOS issues

This DDoS issue that's been impacting Spamhaus for a little while now. Spamhaus DDoS grows to Internet-threatening size | Ars Technica

My question is, would this be impacting Sophos / Astaro UTM's at all in any significant manner.  For performance reasons, would it be a good idea to temporarily drop spamhaus.org as an RBL source?

  • if you are suffering e-mail delays OR larger incoming spam because of it the answer is maybe.  Sophos utm gives you the ability to add your own rbls as well as either a replacement or a supplement to the preferred systems.  The DDOS has been defeated and subsided so performance should return to normal pretty quickly..[:)]

  • Yeah, we never saw any degradation of service -- and Spamhaus is not a default RBL on Sophos UTM these days, but many of our customers use it (within the defined usage limits as defined on Spamhaus' site).
