Automated home

I have a highly automated home that is also my lab.   I have around 200 IP addresses in uses between devices (TVs, VoIP phones, audio/video gear, ...), switches, servers (physical and virtual), ....   I originally used Astaro Home back in version 7, but had to move away because of the 50 device limit.   I also travel a lot so it is important for the firewall to always be up and running so I can get into the house in the event of an issue.   The significant other does not like it when I say wait until I get home.[:O].   I moved to pFsense, but would like to come back to Sophos / Astaro.   I have thought about using the free network essential edition, but I really want a failover cluster, and would like to use the integrated wireless capabilities.

From what I can tell for the software appliance a user = an IP address which makes Sophos UTM prohibitively expensive.    Is my understanding correct?   If not please educate me.

Any thoughts on options I might be missing.

    What are you trying to achieve?

    Most home users probably allow all outgoing; I do too at home, but at work (for our webservers) I have things more locked down. It's hard though as so many products need updates from seemingly random IPs.

    You can always use the web proxy (Web Protection) if you want more control over http/s.

    Also, you can have different rules and/or profiles for different devices/PCs.
