Considering building a MicroITX

Hi,
It depends on:

1. bandwidth requirements (e.g. internet connection speed, or if you have multiple LANs or DMZs)

2. feature requirements (are you going to use the HTTP Proxy (Web Protection) with anti-virus, email protection, ...)

3. # of users

I've got a single-core Atom at home, and with the IPS running, it can't handle more than about 50mbps.

10-15 computers is a lot for an Atom, especially if you're going to be using more than just PacketFilter + IPS.

The AMD is probably a little faster, but may still come up short depending on your answers to #1-2 above.

Otherwise, you could get a better low-power AMD chip, or a low-power i3 or i5.

BTW, ASRock and Foxconn are pretty bottom-of-the-barrel... the two you linked are filled with electrolytic capacitors, which will sooner or later go bad (sooner if they're from China).
Consider one of the higher-grade boards such as Intel, ASUS, Tyan, SuperMicro, GigaByte, or MSI. Most of them have solid capacitors and better engineering, and should last for years.
The Intel boards are usually competitively priced.

Also try to get a board with Intel or Broadcom NICs... the Realtek NICs on most boards are not the best performing, and have been known to have unstable drivers sometimes.
