MSE Virus and Spyware definitions update failed

Windows XP machine

Microsoft Security Essentials says that the Virus and spyware definitions update failed. 

"error code 0x80070424
Security Essentials couldn't install the definition updates."

Is this something where I need to whitelist a web address?

    That is how MSE updates is via Windows Update, so if you solve that issue, then you will most likely solve the MSE issue.

    Not sure why some people have to put in an exception for Windows Update in UTM, as it is already there by default. 

    Microsoft Windows Update	[Allows Windows Update without content scanning side effects.]

    Skipping:  Antivirus / Extension blocking

    Matching these URLs:	

    ^https?://([A-Za-z0-9.-]*\.)?windowsupdate\.com/

    ^https?://([A-Za-z0-9.-]*\.)?microsoft\.com/
