Selling used Astaros

Hi Guys,

we have a used Astaro ASG 220 left over (about 2 Years old) which isn't needed anymore. I wondered if there is any place where we can sell it (besides the usual like ebay and amazon).

    Don't forget to do a factory reset on the box (or reload from ISO) and let the buyer know that they will need to purchase their own licensing for the unit.

    Scott, correct me if I'm wrong, but in the past Astaro would not re-license a used unit... so the only way that a purchaser of one of these units could use Sophos UTM functions on the device would be to wipe it and install a Software license.   This may have changed with the Sophos acquisition, but I remember it being the case before then.

    Hi, don't forget to say how much RAM it has.

    A portion of the serial number would be useful to those who know how to read them.

    Bruce, I remember that, too, but I wonder if it didn't change with the new licensing scheme two years ago?  I think it's been possible to buy a new subscription without buying a new device.  I hope Scott or another Sophosticate comes back to clarify! [:)]

    To be honest I don't know, but I'll check and post back tomorrow.

    My main point was don't sell a box the buyer can't use without properly informing the buyer.  [:)]

    Don't want anyone indulging in Sophostry (Bob started it).

    Sorry about the delay in responding.  I checked with one of the Sales gurus and the official stance is no license transfers and no new license sales for aftermarket (used) hardware purchases.

    So, it sounds like that's a rule needed because of the hardware warranty implied by a license.  The solution would be to do as Bruce suggested above - either modify/remove the ASG file or wipe it and install a software version with a software license.
