I am soon going to be building a new box to upgrade the hardware on my Astaro (home user, commodity hardware). One thing I am interested in is getting some sort of failover for the uplink sorted out. I am aware there is some support for UMTS/3G devices but due to cost (expiring payg credit on a device that is basically unused 99% of the time) I'd prefer to avoid this route.
I do have a phone here (an HTC device) that has a contract with data, and can act as a wireless access point, I've used it in the past as a backup or for travelling and it works very well.
What I'd like to be able to do is stick a USB wireless card on the astaro (or get a motherboard with a wlan adapter onboard), then configure it to connect to the HTC access point and use this as an uplink.
Is this possible?
If it is possible, how do I find out what devices are compatible with Astaro - I can't seem to find an authoritative HCL anywhere, perhaps it's not possible to maintain one for all possible hardware, but if there's not, perhaps someone can point me to a thread or help me figure out which modules are in astaro so I can choose an appropraite USB wlan adapter.
