External(WAN) Suddenly Will Not Work

I have been using Astaro now for over a year. Slowly, I have been learning new features, like using the VPN, adding a DNS server and web server. Everything has been going great and things were just starting to get how I liked them. Then, suddenly, my WAN interface would not connect.  The 'Link' is Up but the 'State' is down. This happened without me changing any settings. I woke up one morning and it was like this. I noticed in the logs that everything died right about Midnight. Vision 8.3

-Comcast is my ISP
-I have tried hooking the cable modem to an old Linksys and everything works fine.
-I installed v8.1 onto a different computer with different network cards, exact same situation happened on that one.

If anyone has any ideas, that would just be the most helpful thing anyone could ever do for me. Thank you!

    99% of the cable providers work the same..the cmts(the head end) binds the mac to modem.  what you have to do is unplug the power from the cable modem..hook up the astaro...then plug int he cable modem.  it will work then.  if you want to go back you have to do the same thing.

    I forgot to write about that.
    I have tried every combination of restarting modem/firewall and which order they are plugged in. I also left the modem on plugged overnight yesterday. No luck. 

    It is just very bizarre that, no matter what I do, I cant get it to work with my firewall but hooking it directly to my computer or to a linksys router works instantly.  

    So. Frustrating.

    Any other ideas? Thank you sir!

    what is your wan nic in terms of make and model?  What is the make and model of your cmodem?

    I'm not sure about my original firewall. I used the integrated gigabit port. It is a Dell Optiplex GX520.

    On the firewall I just set up today, it is a Intel 82801DB Pro/100 VM (LOW)

    The Modem is a Motorola SB5101 SURFboard

    The first and foremost obvious - can you hook up directly to the cable modem and get online?  Make sure it isn't a failed port on the cable modem first.  [;)]  Yes, I am speaking from experience, lol.

    It turns out that there was some interruption to service because of the fires in Colorado. Being that I am surrounded by fires, I should have waited longer before I posted.
