question about ipaddress that i can't ping just past astaro

i have a busniness class cable modem attached to astaro, i try to tracert to say Google, all servers come back with name except one 10.251.0.1, i also can't ping just that address.  I know that is not an internet ip but i don't know when that comes from.  My cable provider has given me 16 ip address on the modem,  so when i tracerout i get my network than astaro than 10.251.0.1 than the cable companies ip's.   So since that is on the other side of astaro why is it a non public ip. Thanks for any light you can shed on this.

    That is most likely the Cable companies CMTS system. That is what controls the cable modems, pretty much one of their routers. They usually have a private IP address in the range of the cable modems themselves.
