DSL Pk5000Z modem reboots/power cycles at random intervals

I have recently setup the Astaro Gateway with a Home Use License.  Everything was fine for approximately 24 hours.  Then the DSL modem (an Actiontec PK5000z from Qwest/Century Link) started to power cycle (power light goes red/orange, then comes back up, starts to pass traffic again and then lather rinse repeat)

At first I thought it was a bad modem, contact Century Link and got an RMA, then the RMA started doing it almost immediately.

Then I thought it might be the $20 GIG Nics (Realtek's) and replaced them with Intel Pro 10/100's.  Same issue.

I backed up the Astaro configuration, then re-imaged the unit with Smoothwall (which it was running earlier) and no reboots.  Attempted to setup the Smoothwall like I had the Astaro and still no reboots of the Modem.  Determined to see if this was still just an Astaro issue, I re-imaged the box again with IPCOP 2.0.4 and configured as closely as possible to the Astaro.  No modem reboots.

I then re-imaged the box with Astaro, and thinking it could be a configuration issue, started from scratch with a basic configuration and no advanced features turned on.  Plugged it into the modem and within a few minutes the DSL Modem again was rebooting either in a loop or when it could come up again, within 5 -10 minutes, the modem would reboot.

I've searched through the Forums for anything remotely like this and have found nothing.

Can someone provide some insight to where I should be looking (either configuration or hardware) that might be causing this?

I really want to dump Smoothwall and use Astaro since the advanced features of the Astaro are much more advanced than Smoothwall and with 3 teenage boys who have friends that come over, the Anti-Virus and filtering seems so much more powerful than Smoothwall.

    Hi, Robert, and welcome to the User BB!

    I don't recall seeing any such problems here, either.    Hopefully, one of the linux/hardware geeks will have some ideas.  What kind of interface have you defined - PPPoE?  What do you see if you disable the interface, start the PPPoE Live Log and then enable the interface?

    Hi Bob,

    The interface is just a DHCP interface since the modem is exterior (or could that be the issue?) .  I just chose that option since the other FW's I setup were set up that way as well.  

    From my understanding the Modem itself handles the PPPOe which is handled between the modem and the DSLAM but between the modem and individual systems within the internal network, it's just normal ethernet.  Which is why Grandma and Grandpa with no PC/Networking experience can just hook up a Windows PC or MAC and start surfing the interwebs with ease.

    Too bad I'm at work and the modem is disconnected from the FW or else I'd log in and post how I have the interface configured.

    I'm sure it's something in the configuration that I have just overlooked, or being new to the Astaro don't have a full understanding of how a particular setting works.
