I've just bought my first Astaro (320) box and am in the process of migrating our infrastructure from our current Juniper SSG boxes to the Astaro appliance.
This hasn't got into production yet but I just wanted to share a few points and wondered if anyone had any comments for me [[[[:)]]]] -
The good
The Reporting is in a different world to the SSG, it's incredible the amount of information you get without having to dig too hard. The daily report is good too.
Hard disk for logging, this is great too (although i'm still not 100% sure about moving parts especially without RAID in a network appliance)
The bad
The responsiveness of the interface, I know is much prettier but there must be far too much javascript going on. When i'm admining a firewall, I want to be in and out as quickly as possible [[[[:)]]]]
The rules. The interface is nice, but again adding rules is pretty painful as its so slow. I need to migrate a lot of rules. I'd love a way to add multiple rules at the same time, especially as I can't seem to find a config file I can edit.
The documentation. The how-to guides are not bad, but there isn't enough of them covering the basics. Plus I found a lot of them were written for version 7 and are out of date.
Menus. Please hide the features I'm not licenced for! They clutter up the screen [[[[:)]]]]
Logging. On the SSG I can click on a rule and see the recent traffic activity on that rule specifically. Haven't a clue how to get this info on the Astaro.
Am looking at doing some more advanced things once i've done the basic port, so I'm sure i'll be back here [[[[:)]]]]
